Athens and Exam Day

Today was the last day of classes for students in Athens (exam day tomorrow!). Students in all classes participated in presentations and finalized their culminating assignments. In the afternoon, students had free time. Most students took some time to study for their exam, and then took a break to venture into the city one last time, find a bite to eat and do some shopping.

After dinner, students spent the remainder of their evening at the hotel preparing for their exams. Staff stopped by a local bakery and picked up some study snacks (Greek cookies!) as study fuel. It was an early night for most students as everyone wanted to be well-rested for the next day.

Tuesday morning, students woke up early for breakfast and fueled up for the day. Students spent the remainder of the morning studying for their exam at noon.

Once exams were completed (woohoo!!) students had free time to explore the city one last time before dinner. Many students took this time to walk through Plaka, shop, and scope out somewhere to enjoy one last gyro. At 6:30 staff and students dolled up met for a dinner banquet at the hotel and enjoyed one last meal together. After dinner, students and staff relocated to a conference room where activity coordinators presented students with awards and shared a short video of photos to reminisce over everyone’s favourite moments of the trip.

Following the trip down memory lane, students and staff headed up to the rooftop patio of the hotel to enjoy one last celebration together with a beautiful view of the Acropolis and the rest of downtown Athens. As the program comes to an end, we can’t help but wonder where the time went. This program was an experience all students will remember forever with friends they will never forget.

The safety of our students is Blyth Academy’s number one priority. Over our 40 years of taking students abroad, we have been diligent about monitoring social, political, and environmental conditions to ensure that we are providing a safe travel experience. As a matter of protocol, we refer to the Canadian Government’s travel advisories and other public health agencies in the countries we visit and we alter itineraries based on safety when necessary.

At this time, we have not made changes to any of our itineraries for July or August 2020. We will continue to monitor this situation over the coming weeks and will assess each city and country we visit on our programs. If revisions are made we will promptly communicate the changes to parents, guardians and students.

Thank you,

Effective March 17, 2020, Blyth Academy will be a remote organization in hopes of doing our part to slow the spread of COVID-19. We will be receiving all emails, phone calls, and voicemails and are dedicated to maintaining business as usual. Thank you for your continued support!

Though our doors are temporarily closed, the minds of our students will remain open. Our students will continue their academic journey through virtual classrooms, to ensure our students don’t miss out on valuable curriculum hours. Our small class sizes and individualized approach will continue in a virtual model, as will the structure that students need to be engaged and successful during the closure.
