Hola from Costa Rica!

We have arrived safely in Playas del Coco and everyone is settled in. Despite the early morning, lack of sleep and very long day, the excitement and energy is off the charts.

Who could tell we’ve had such an early morning?? The airport was abuzz with excitement which has carried over to our lovely Mapache Villas.

It was a relaxing flight from Toronto to Atlanta, where our 1 hour layover just fueled our excitement. 😊 Our layover provided us the opportunity to stretch our legs and buy a quick bite to eat. We hopped onto the plane to finally arrive in Liberia, Costa Rica, where we were greeted by the amazing Mario and his crew. They took us to the Villas, we dropped our bags and within 45 minutes, we went for a quick walk to familiarize ourselves with the nearby town and the beach, our home for the next week. There we found restaurants, souvenir shops, ice cream shops, coffee shops and, shall I say grocery stores?? (Some students figured they would take advantage of having a kitchen in their villa…can’t wait to see what’s cooking!).

By late afternoon, the skies opened up and we had a torrential downpour!! Even Mario said he hadn’t ever seen rain like this! It was actually amazing to see. But alas, that did not stop us from sitting down and enjoying a delicious dinner of chicken, veggies, mashed potatoes and fruit.

At around 10pm, those of us who were still awake, greeted our friends who had arrived from Calgary to join our program. Just like family, Mario made sure dinner awaited. Nobody goes to bed hungry 🙂

Time for us to catch some zzzz!

Hasta Manana e Buenos noches!
