Quimper Optional Excursion
Today was such an exciting day for all of us on the Program as our optional excursion to Quimper, France had finally arrived!
Quimper, only a short 30-minute bus ride from our hotel in Benodet, is a beautiful town tucked in among the rolling hills. Located around the river Steir, the medieval town brought to life the visions the students have had of France; flower-covered bridges, cafes in the square, cobblestone streets and, at the center, a two- turret Gothic cathedral!
With our guide, Gabrielle, in the lead, the students first explored the exterior and interior of the cathedral, learning the history of the architecture as while as some fables believed by the locals! We window-shopped the various shops which are housed in some of the beautiful half-timbered buildings dating back to the 14th Century, we tasted fresh crepes and pasta from the local market, and people watched in the city square, the Place au Beurre. Gabrielle even took us to a “secret garden” along Mont Frugy to take in some breathtaking views of the city! With our free time, students souvenir shopped took photos and indulged in some of the best crepes we’ve ever tasted! Everyone agreed that this was a sight to be seen!
Students have also been working diligently on their coursework as we begin to prepare for finals next Wednesday/ Thursday. The collaboration of the students within their classes is heartwarming to watch as they bounce ideas off each other and discuss their novels, videos and experiences. The teachers agree that this group is one of a kind!
Tomorrow will be our final day in Brittany and we plan to enjoy the relaxation that the beach town inspires before we launch into our final leg- Paris!
