About This Study Abroad Program
Get to know several European countries in one amazing summer as you travel by plane and train—and sometimes boat—to thriving metropolises where modern architecture blends with medieval, as well as sandy Mediterranean shores and off-the-beaten-path places that offer an authentic cultural experience.
In London, a city bursting with history and iconic architecture, stroll along the banks of the Thames, shop at Covent Garden, Oxford Street, and Regent Street, and have a choice of which fascinating museums and galleries to visit.
Cross to mainland Europe and explore the colourful streets of Amsterdam, a city with more canals than Venice. Visit Anne Frank House, watch diamond cutters at a diamond house, and opt to go on a cycling tour.
In sophisticated Paris, gaze in awe at Notre-Dame, people-watch from sidewalk cafés, and immerse yourself in the masterpieces of the Louvre. Take a brief respite from the city hopping and stop on the south coast of France, spending your days on beautiful beaches and swimming in the cool Mediterranean Sea.
Spice things up in vibrant and lively Spain, and become familiar with two distinctly unique Spanish cultures. In Barcelona, view the inspiring architecture of Antoni Gaudí and take to the skies on a once-in-a-lifetime hot-air balloon ride over the Catalan countryside. Valencia, the birthplace of paella and an often overlooked city, offers a fabulous mix of ancient and modern sites. In Castilian Madrid, the capital of Spain, immerse yourself in the classic art of the Prado and modern works of the Reina Sofia.
No visit to the Iberian Peninsula would be complete without a stop in Lisbon, where you can marvel at the panoramic, no-filter-necessary views from São Jorge Castle atop one of the city’s famous seven hilltops, the perfect final photo to cap off this epic journey.
SPECIAL PROGRAM NOTES: Much of this program is spent walking the streets of the incredible cities we visit so make sure to bring comfortable walking shoes. Keep in mind, the fast-paced itinerary makes prioritizing rest and getting adequate sleep important in each country we explore.

Rural Cycling & Urban Canal Cruising, with Dinner (Amsterdam)
On this two-part excursion we first hop on our bikes for a scenic ride through picture-postcard Dutch countryside, before relaxing on board a cruise on the canals of Amsterdam!
Explore like a local – by bike! We spend a leisurely Sunday afternoon pedalling through beautiful countryside, exploring picturesque villages, waterways and farmland. We stop along the way to take pictures beside a windmill and colourful fisherman’s houses all while learning about the region’s history and folklore with our fantastic guide.
On arrival back to the city, we walk a short distance to where we depart on our evening canal cruise with commentary. We enjoy one of the best burgers in town (vegetarian option available), brownie for dessert and unlimited soft drinks as we view Amsterdam from the water.
Cycling to last approx. 4 hours and cruise to last approx. 1.5 hours. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions, and bring water, sunscreen and a hat. Running shoes are recommended for cycling.
Palace of Versailles (Paris)
Versailles was once an important location where governmental affairs were conducted and political decisions made. Its glory is truly a sight to be seen. Aside from its amazing architecture, Versailles’ history also makes the trip a must on anyone’s France to-do list.
As the seat of political power, Versailles naturally became the cradle of the French Revolution. It was there that Marie-Antoinette was famously alleged to have said, in response to the fact that the French people were starving, “let them eat cake”. Both the King and the Queen were later executed and feudalism in France was abolished.
We will be picked up by private coach after lunch. Once at the Chateau, we will take in the magnificent gardens and fountains, before a private guide takes us inside the palace to learn about the palace’s history and the people of the time. We will return to Paris in time for dinner.
Sailing (South of France)
On this full-day excursion we’ll board our catamaran after breakfast and sail along the coastline to the picturesque village of Port Vendres, take a little train over the hills to (and from) neighbouring Collioure, and cruise back to Canet en Roussillon in time for dinner.
Port Vendres is a fishing port at the foot of the Albères Mountain, with sandy beaches and pebble coves overlooked by Fort Fanal.
Collioure was an important military centre and has attracted artists (Matisse and Picasso to name but two) for generations. Here we’ll have several hours of free time to relax on the beach, explore the local monuments, people watch from one of the seaside cafés, stroll the cobblestone alleys and taste the local delicacy – the anchovy.
The petit train is a unique way to journey between these two villages. This tourist train travels along the coastal road (approx. 15 mins) from Port Vendres to Collioure, and returns via the hills, through vineyards and past historic castles, making stops along the way for photos (approx. 30 mins). Commentary in English gives an overview of the area.
On return to Port Vendres, we board our boat again to cruise the beautiful coastline back to Canet en Roussillon.
Don’t forget your swimwear and towel, sunscreen, water, snacks, and camera. The excursion will run from 9 am to 7 pm. Boarding takes place 20 mins before departure. Time at sea: 4 hours. Time on land: 6 hours.
Graffiti Tour (Barcelona)
Discover some of the latest, greatest and oldest examples of street art, graffiti & mural art in one of the most famous capitals of urban art, Barcelona.
Led by your professional guide, you will see some of the best stencil art, throw-ups, mural art, hall of fame’s, paste-ups, tagging, ad busting, heaven spots, burners and installations while learning who is behind the art and what their motivations were. The art changes rapidly in the streets so there is always fresh work to see. You might even get the chance to see an artist doing a piece live!
We then visit the workshop. After receiving instruction on various street art and graffiti techniques, you will create your very own piece to take home with you as a memento of this truly Barcelona experience!
**Participation is not recommended for anyone with asthma or other lung conditions as you will be working with aerosols**
Oceanogràfic Aquarium (Valencia)
As the largest aquarium in Europe, the Oceanogràfic is made up of several zones offering an insight into aquatic life in important global ecosystems – from the Arctic and Antarctic, wetlands and islands, to the Mediterranean and oceans.
The site’s objective is to educate the public, raising awareness about the protection of flora and fauna, and as a platform for scientific research. From sharks, beluga whales, penguins and rays, all housed in stunning architectural buildings, this is one of Valencia’s most popular attractions. There’s also a dolphin exhibition.
Just a short walk from the hotel, after morning class and lunch, we’ll enjoy an afternoon exploring the Oceanogràfic, and the City of Arts and Sciences.
Zip Lining & High Ropes at Europa Park (Madrid)
Enjoy an afternoon exploring the monuments of Europe, zip-lining, and scrambling along a high-ropes course – all in one place!
Europa Park sits on the outskirts of Madrid and is a beautiful space with smaller replicas of some of Europe’s most well-known sites. Take a selfie in front of Paris’ Eiffel Tower, Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate or London’s Tower Bridge, and explore other landmarks from, amongst others, Brussels, Lisbon, and Copenhagen.
Then we’ll get our adrenaline going and tackle the adventure course, a 75+ minute route of bridges, swings, and zip-lines, and culminate our visit with a 180m zip-line across the lake! This course is not for the faint of heart.
It will be hot in Madrid in July so we recommend you bring water, sunscreen, sunhat and sunglasses. Please wear running shoes.
