About This community service Program
We have three community service opportunities to connect deeply with Costa Rica’s culture through volunteering at wildlife and forest reserves, a farm, and a charity focused on all different aspects of the country’s life.
We begin in La Fortuna, a small town at the foot of Arenal Volcano. From here, we’ll visit stunning waterfalls and swim in hot springs at the base of the volcano. We volunteer at Proyecto Asis’s Wildlife Rescue Center, where we release wildlife back into their natural habitat or improve their homes inside the centre. Here, we’ll connect with spider monkeys, macaws, kinkajous, and caimans. At our resort in Arenal, we’ll swim in volcanic hot springs.
Next, we’ll travel to Monteverde and the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve to learn about its unique ecology. We’ll have the rare opportunity to take a night hike and discover nocturnal animals while our new daytime jungle friends are sleeping. We’ll also volunteer at a farm at Life Monteverde, to learn how we can sustainably protect this beautiful environment.
Finally, we’ll head to the Guanacaste coast, where we will enjoy the ocean and beach fun with swimming, volleyball, and optional surfing lessons. Nearby in town, we’ll work closely with a community group, helping with meal planning and preparing dinner for local children.
After connecting with the country’s vibrant ecology and making a difference in the community, we’ll relax in the sun and enjoy a farewell banquet.
SPECIAL PROGRAM NOTE: If you would like to provide donations for the local children, please bring small items like crayons, pens, colouring books, and/or clothes that can easily fit into your luggage.

Led by skilled guides, you will jump in and out of pools and follow the rivers upstream until you arrive at a breathtaking waterfall. Once you are briefed, you will gear up and descend down the waterfall. Following your wild adventure, you will be treated to a well deserved scrumptious lunch. Prepare to get wet and experience a waterfall like never before.
Treetop Zip Lining
Gain a new perspective of the world on this afternoon excursion by viewing Costa Rica’s lush landscape from treetop platforms. Joined by tropical birds and monkeys, students will glide along zip lines with fellow students, teachers, supervisors and safety guides. Enjoy this safe and fun experience that will have you reaching new heights.
Surfing in Tamarindo (Playas del Coco)
Costa Rica has long been a popular destination for surfers worldwide, and famous Tamarindo is one of the most coveted beaches for wave riders of all levels on the Pacific Coast. Located in Las Baulas National Park, Tamarindo is a long white-sand beach offering stunning views of the surrounding natural marine park, which has been carefully preserved as it is a nesting site for huge leatherback turtles. The quiet beach is also an ideal destination to learn surfing as it is rarely crowded and provides consistent and rideable waves with perfect left and right peaks.
We will depart our Villas for a short ride through coastal towns before arriving at Tamarindo. There we will be greeted by our surf instructors, who will provide equipment and go over the basics of surfing this famous beach safely. Each student will receive individual attention and instruction before having the opportunity to conquer the waves on their own. Hang ten, and look out for those swells! A delicious lunch is included for all participants.
