France August 2016: Seeing the City of Lights at Night

Today was one of my favourite days of the program thus far.

In the morning, students travelled throughout the city for class and met up with the group at Montmartre in the afternoon. We saw the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur, listened to street performers, and watched artists paint in Place du Tertre. We made a short stop while on our way to the Metro stop to see the Wall of Love which has “I love you” written in over 250 languages.

We ate a delicious dinner at Bouillon Chartier, a historical restaurant that is over 100 years old. Our chocolatey dessert was served with a side of Chantilly cream, giving us a taste of what was in store for our final banquet at the Château where it originated.

All of the students were excited to head to Île de la Cité to participate in tonight’s activity along the Seine River. There was no “pier” pressure required to entice students to come on the boat cruise. The timing of our cruise was impeccable: we boarded the boat just before the sun began to set and watched the city sparkle along the river as our ship left the harbour.

A large group of students and I enjoyed a picnic in Paris after the river boat cruise. We sat beneath the tower and experienced a truly magical moment: watching it sparkle up close!
