France August 2016: It’s Almost Time to Bid Adieu
Over the past few days, the students have been working and studying hard for their final exams. Thomas Edison once said, “There is no substitute for hard work.” After observing the perseverance and diligence of our group over the past few weeks, we are confident that the hard work of the students will pay off.
This morning, we could smell the eggs scrambling on the stovetop, the coffee brewing, and the fresh croissants all the way from our rooms. Students had some time in between breakfast and final exams to review content before completing the last evaluation of their course. Before we knew it, we were on our way to Château de Chantilly for the final banquet. The dinner and dessert were simple, yet delicious.
Following dinner, our bus driver had a few surprises in store for us. He picked us up from the Château and took us on a full tour of Paris. The tour was impeccably timed: we pulled up to the Eiffel Tower in Trocadero Plaza just as it began to sparkle at midnight. It was one of the most memorable parts of the program.
Once we returned back to the residence, students stocked up on sweet treats at the candy bar and filled in each others’ “yearbook” postcards with memories, jokes and signatures. Soon after, teachers began distributing awards to each of their students. Finally, after resolving a few technical difficulties, we were able to view the videos I had spent the past few days preparing. We experienced a wide range of emotions watching the videos, from laughter and happiness to tears and sadness that our month together had come to an end. Thank you to all of the staff and students for the memories, the constant supply of laughter and excitement, for participating in the many activities, and most importantly, for the lifelong friendships we have created over the past month!
It’s time for us to pack our suitcases and get some shut eye before we leave for our flight in the early morning.
See you soon!
