France August 2016: Paris, We Love You!
It’s official: we’ve fallen in love with the city of lights!
On Sunday morning, we departed the Maison des Étudiants Canadiens for the Latin Quarter and began our walking tour of the city. Our tour guides were very informative and provided us with plenty of historical information and context about landmarks around the city. The tour ended in Le Marais (the Jewish Quarter) which houses some of the best falafel restaurants in the city! We patiently waited in line at L’As du Fallafel, the highest reviewed restaurant in the area, and were in no way disappointed by the hype. We’re already planning when we’ll be able to return!
In the evening, a few students and I strolled along the Champs-Élysées towards the Arc De Triomphe to watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle from one of the best views in the city. We finished our night at the Ladurée bar where we enjoyed some of the finer treats in Paris: fresh and flavourful macaroons.
Both yesterday and today, classes began to disperse themselves around the city. They visited the Pompidou Centre, Edith Piaf’s old apartment, the first Chanel store, and the Eiffel Tower, to name a few!
This afternoon, a large group of students and I participated in the optional excursion to Disneyland Paris. A lot of thought and collaborative effort went into planning our course of action to ensure that we could ride as many roller coasters as possible and watch the fireworks show at night. In between getting FastPasses, standing in relatively short lineups, and riding ALL of the fastest roller coasters at the park, we splurged on barbe à papa (cotton candy), pommes d’amour (candy apples), and glace (ice cream) to refuel. Although the rides were phenomenal, our favourite part of the day was the Disney Dreams nighttime spectacular! It projected scenes from our favourite movies with familiar characters onto the castle and was amplified by music, water fountains, lasers and fireworks.
Now we’re heading to bed to get some rest before we visit the Louvre tomorrow.
