Costa Rica August 2016: We made it to Monteverde!
Hello! I apologize for the lack of blog posts over the past couple days; the wifi was not strong enough to upload pictures and posts and our days have been jam packed with activities. That being said I will have everything back up to date within the next couple of days.
We arrived safely in Monteverde after a 3-and-a-half-hour drive from Playa del Coco, which took us through wined roads and up and down hills. Once we arrived we were handed room keys and were given time to settle in. Those who were interested were given a walking tour of the nearby town St. Elena.
At 5:00pm we all met in the lobby for our night hike. Our guides came and picked u up at our hotel and we drove down the road to the Children’s Forest Conservation area. There we split off into three groups. Our guides proceeded to tell us about the history of the forest and the current conservation efforts that are in place. We walked around the forest for 2 and a half hours, and along the way we saw tarantulas, butterflies, insects and monkeys!
Once our hike came to a close we thanked our guides and made our way back to the hotel. The staff there had a delicious dinner waiting for us. We were all so hungry after our long travel day and hike that the food vanished within seconds. Afterwards, we all sat out on the front lawn star gazing and watching the meteor shower. The students were in bed by 10:00pm as the tomorrow we will be off to work early.
