This Program has Arrived at Home!
We land first in Madrid, where among many other cultural highlights, we’ll visit the collection of contemporary art housed in Reina Sofía Gallery, gaze at classic works at the Prado Museum, and study in the Retiro Gardens.
We then head north to Basque country and Bilbao, where we’ll visit the Guggenheim Museum. This contemporary masterpiece of modern architecture speaks to the “Bilbao Effect,” which transforms dormant cities into thriving ones.
Moving north, we arrive at the sophisticated seaside city of San Sebastian, and La Concha, one of the finest urban beaches in the world. It’s here we have the option to surf at one of Europe’s best locations to catch a wave. The adrenaline doesn’t stop here — we’re off to Pamplona on a day excursion to the San Fermin Festival where we’ll witness the annual Running of the Bulls.
The last leg of our program takes place in Barcelona, where we’ll experience the Catalan language, culture and cuisine. We’ll enjoy examples of Antoni Gaudí’s architecture including the Sagrada Familia Basilica and Park Güell.
Ahead of our final exam, we’ll enjoy a day at Sitges Beach before celebrating our farewell banquet, and reflecting on all we learned on our Spanish adventure.

Stand Up Paddling (Barcelona)
Stand Up Paddling is fast becoming one of the most popular water sports in the world. Paddlers can keep fit, sight see, race or even do yoga on serene lakes, river rapids or ocean waves.
With the Barcelona skyline as our backdrop, we’ll learn the moves and have a safety briefing on dry land with our instructor, before suiting up with wetsuits and taking to the water at Olympic Port.
You do not need to be super-fit to enjoy this sport – you can paddle as fast or slow as you wish!
Please bring flip-flops (for the beach/walk to the entry point NOT for paddling itself), a towel and shirt, as well as sunscreen and water. We will have access to changing rooms with showers and lockers (nominal fee). Our lesson will last 2 hours.

Hiking in the Pyrenees (Barcelona)
On this full day excursion we will discover the beautiful Valle de Nuria. We will enjoy some of the most peaceful and awe-inspiring countryside of the region in this not-to-be-missed day excursion.
Leaving Barcelona after an early breakfast, we stop en route to stretch our legs at a couple of traditional Catalan towns, before reaching the village of Queralbs. From here we take a cog railway train up the mountain to Nuria (apart from hiking this is the only way to access the valley!).
After spending time relaxing in the sunshine beside the lake, viewing the animals at the farm and enjoying a picnic, we begin our hike down the mountain. This hike follows a well signed route, with some steep descents, and is about 7km, taking about 2.5-3 hours meeting our bus back in Queralbs, and returning to Barcelona for dinner.
Please remember to bring sunscreen, water, and a jacket for the cooler temperatures at the mountain top (there may still be some snow on the ground!) and wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes. Please bring a picnic lunch and snacks, though there will be places to purchase food. Don’t forget your camera!
