This Program has Arrived at Home!
We begin our Grand Tour Western Europe program in London, a city bursting with history, iconic architecture and fascinating museums and galleries.
Crossing to mainland Europe, we land in Amsterdam, a city with more canals than Venice. We’ll visit the Anne Frank House, search for treasures in the flea market, and learn about diamonds on a special tour.
In sophisticated Paris, we’ll stroll the Champs-Elysées, people-watch from sidewalk cafés, and immerse ourselves in the masterpieces of the Louvre. Still in France, we journey south to the Riviera, to enjoy its beautiful beaches.
Next we make our first stop of three in Spain – Barcelona, home to the wild architecture of Antoni Gaudí and the inspiring Picasso Museum. The highlight of our stay will be a hot-air balloon ride soaring over the countryside surrounding the city. Valencia sits on the Orange Blossom Coast at the mouth of the Turia River. We’ll explore its fabulous mix of ancient and modern, before journeying inland to Madrid, the capital of Spain. Here we’ll take in the classic art of the Prado and the modern works at the Reina Sofia.
Our last stop of this epic program is Lisbon overlooked by the Sao Jorge Castle. We will take our final exam before celebrating with a farewell banquet.

Optional Excursions Grand Tour Western Europe
London Eye (London)
Appreciate a bird’s-eye view of London from our capsule on the London Eye.
We’ll enjoy a 30 minute rotation on the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel. At 135 metres above the River Thames we’ll have fantastic views of Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, MI6 (the HQ of the British Secret Intelligence Service) and the Houses of Parliament. On a clear day, we can see all the way to Windsor Castle – almost 40km away.
Fun fact 1! With more than 3.5 million people travelling on the Eye each year, it’s the most popular paid tourist attraction in the U.K.
Fun fact 2! There are 32 capsules – one for each of London’s boroughs, but they’re numbered 1-33 as there’s no number 13.
Fun fact 3! Over 5,000 people have gotten engaged on the Eye since it opened in 2000.
Anticipated Date: Thursday 6th July
Rural Cycling & Urban Canal Cruising, with Dinner (Amsterdam)

We stop along the way to take pictures beside a windmill and colourful fisherman’s houses all while learning about the region’s history and folklore with our fantastic guide.
On arrival back to the city, we walk a short distance to where we depart on our evening canal cruise with commentary. We enjoy some of the best pizza in town, brownie for dessert and unlimited soft drinks as we view Amsterdam from the water.

Palace of Versailles (Paris)
Versailles was once an important location where governmental affairs were conducted and political decisions made. Its glory is truly a sight to be seen. Aside from its amazing architecture, Versailles’ history also makes the trip a must on anyone’s France to-do list.
As the seat of political power, Versailles naturally became the cradle of the French Revolution. It was there that Marie-Antoinette was famously alleged to have said, in response to the fact that the French people were starving, “let them eat cake”. Both the King and the Queen were later executed and feudalism in France was abolished.
We will be picked up by private coach after lunch. Once at the Chateau, we will take in the magnificent gardens and fountains, before a private guide takes us inside the palace to learn about the palace’s history and the people of the time. We will return to Paris in time for dinner.
Anticipated Date: Tuesday 11th July
Kayaking on the Island of Porquerolles, with Lunch (Toulon)
Île de Porquerolles is an island in the Îles d’Hyères off the south coast of the French Riviera. An unspoiled magical place, which is protected from development as a conservation area, offers pristine beaches and rugged hiking trails to the few who discover it.
We’ll take the ferry to the island and spend a full day exploring. First we’ll hop into a kayak and set upon finding the secret creeks and grottos of the coastline. As you gently glide along the Giens peninsula, a rush of freedom will overcome you.
After enjoying a wonderful picnic lunch, we’ll have the afternoon at leisure to peruse the cafés and shops, relax on the beautiful beaches, hike some of the island trails and swim in the clear Mediterranean waters!
Please remember to bring water, sunscreen, sunhat, towel, swimwear and a change of clothes. You may also wish to bring snacks for the day. Travel time on the ferry is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes each way.
Anticipated Date: Saturday 15th July
Fencing is one of those sports that not many get the option to try – so why not take your chance now and learn how to spar against your friends in this Olympic sport.
Speed, accuracy, timing, quick thinking, decision-making, good hand-eye coordination…all of these skills will be put to the test!
In a specialized sports hall, our skilled instructors will give us a safety briefing and short introduction to the history of fencing, before we learn to attack and defend with some basic fencing movements. Once we have increased confidence and we have become ‘experts’ we’ll have a tournament with electric suits and score boards. The winner will even get a medal.
Please wear light clothing and comfortable shoes, and bring water. Lesson is 2 hours, plus travel time.
Anticipated Date: Tuesday 18th July
Aquopolis Waterpark (Madrid)
Thrills and spills are the order of the day at Aquopolis waterpark, where there’s something for everyone. Located in Villanueva de la Cañada in the city’s western suburbs, this wet and wild world is packed with attractions of all heights and shapes, from white-knuckle rides to gentle slides.
Try exciting rides such as the ‘Turbolance’, the Black Hole or the Wave surfer, and other more relaxing attractions, including a variety of whirlpools, two rivers and soft slides. There are more than a dozen water slides, including daredevil magnets such as the Kamikaze and the Angel’s Leap – all in beautifully landscaped surroundings. This is a park where you can go from a thrilling adrenalin rush to the peaceful quiet of the lush gardens in a matter of moments. You’ll be able to let yourself go in the Boomerang, the enclosed slides, the Zig Zag for most daring or the easy-going attractions such as the Soft Slides and the Wave Pool.
